Here's how it works.
Every week a new fanart prompt (chosen at random with a high tech device known as a hat with little slips of paper in it) will be given. It could be an anime, a video game, a movie, a TV show, anything! You, the participants, draw fanart for said prompt. You can draw one, you can draw many. Whatever. Just draw fanart for it! You're not required to participate in every prompt. You can pick and choose which you draw fanart for, but if you do participate, post your fanart here and send a link my way. I will post the entries here for all to see and be inspired by! This is NOT a contest. There are no prizes or winners. It's just a fun way to get us all to pay homage to the shows and stuff that we love!
New prompts will be given each Sunday (with some exceptions) for an entire year. Maybe longer. I've got enough prompts to last a year but hey! Maybe I'll think up some more. You're also all invited to send me requests for prompts to be put in the hat for future weeks.
If you've got any questions, feel free to ask them here or send me a note or something :3
The challenge for this, week 16 is:
Watchmen
Taken from Wikipedia:
Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins. The series was published by DC Comics in single issues during 1986 and 1987, and has been subsequently reprinted in collected form.
Moore used the story as a means to reflect contemporary anxieties and to deconstruct the superhero concept. Watchmen takes place in an alternate history United States where the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, freelance costumed vigilantes have been outlawed and most costumed superheroes are in retirement or working for the government. The story focuses on the personal development and struggles of the protagonists as an investigation into the murder of a government sponsored superhero pulls them out of retirement and eventually leads them to confront a plot by one of their own to stave off nuclear war by killing millions of innocent people.
Watchmen has received critical acclaim both in the comics and mainstream press, and is regarded as a seminal text of the comic book medium. After a number of attempts to adapt the series into a feature film, director Zack Snyder's Watchmen is scheduled for release in March 2009.
Graphic novel time! I'll admit I only recently read the graphic novel, but it was absolutely superb. I decided not to draw from the hat for this week and chose Watchmen as the challenge because of the movie coming out this Friday! Personally, I'm super excited for it.
The deadline for this challenge is Sunday March 8th at 11:59pm CDT. Happy drawing!!

----ATTENTION!----
*megoomba, *Issa-chan and I have been discussing starting up this challenge and we've come up with a way to spice things up a bit. I got to thinking... Fanart doesn't just have to be for published and established titles! Why not find a way to honor this wide community of talented artists and story-tellers here on DeviantArt? So here's the deal:
We here at The Weekly Fanart Challenge are opening up applications to all of you for your original stories/characters! What does this mean? We want to honor all your hard work in thinking up such amazing characters and story lines. If you have an original character or characters, drop us a note telling us about them! Be sure to include reference pictures if you have them. If you don't, please include detailed descriptions of your characters. Once your application is approved, we will put your username in a hat to pull at random for a bi-weekly mini-challenge! The main challenge will go on every week and every other week artists will be given the opportunity to draw art for a fellow deviant's story!
So here's what you should do:
1) Send us a note with the subject title "ORIGINAL CHARACTER APPLICATION".
2) Make sure that these are ORIGINAL characters. Fan characters will not be accepted.
3) We will send you a note back if your application is accepted or not and your name will be added to the hat.
4) Every other week we'll pull a name out of the hat for the mini-challenge!
5) Get drawing for your fellow deviants!
And that's all there is to it! So let's get this mini-challenge started! I'll get started fixing things up around here~
The first mini-challenge will be drawn next week! If you'd like to submit your stories/characters, please do!
